About Me

My name is Shelli and this is the story of my journey to see how much weight I can loose in a years time. I started at 365.1 pounds on 09/09/09 and will have my final weigh in on 10/10/10.

Back in 2007 I dropped 49 pounds in 4 months but it never really registered that I was actually losing weight. So just before I dropped below 300 pounds I gave up.  Most of the weight was lost during the fishing season when there were 18 hour days and no time to eat except junk at the end of a shift.  The weight was lost because of the energy expended during that time and not because of changed eating habits.  So now it is actually time to apply those lessons that I have learned during the years.  I know what to do so I’m going to take small steps. The year will inch by and if I have more good days than bad then the weight lose should reflect that success.

The Perfect Ten was a Blogging Community Challenge from 2010.  I had goals and a check list of  my progress but after time only this part of the Challenge has any meaning for me now so I changed the update to an information page.

Something you might not know about me is that …

Day 171 – Update 8

Something you might not know about me is that …
I float with little or no effort. It is my one true talent. I can just sit in the water and just move my arms every once in a while. I have seen people slowly sink or flop around like a fish out of water to try to stay afloat. Me, I just hang out and float. I wish it required more effort because there are Swimming Workouts that require treading water. I wouldn’t even break a sweat.

Update 7 – Day 164

Something you might not know about me is that …
I like to watch golf. You might have made that conclusion because I used to live oon a golf course. I like nothing more than to sit and watch each amazing shot on a Saturday afternoon. The the beautiful arial shots from the Met Life Blimp the crisp green grass and the agony of missed shots are a real thrill for me. Tiger or no Tiger.

Update 6

Something you might not know about me is that …
I didn’t have my first cup of coffee until I was 29. It was a vanilla latte in a small bookstore in Sitka, Alaska in 1996. Now I believe I need to cut back my daily mocha habbit for a while because I don’t want to use up that many calories for an empty pleasure. Oh the humanity!

Update 5

Something you might not know about me is that …
I grew up on a golf course. The grass from my backyard connected right to the fairway. From my house I could watch golfers putt and tee off. Sometimes it was a little dangerous. You never knew when a wayward golf ball would head out of bounds. We had a utility door with golf balls just drilled right into it. Sometimes when we would lay out by the pool we’d hear kirplunk and there’d be a golf ball rolling towards the drain. It was a great place to grow up especailly after hours when my family and I would take long walks in the cool of the evening or when the neighborhood kids would play football on the best grass field around. Good times.

Update 4

Something you might not know about me is that …
sometimes I put my trash in the freezer. It is totally wrapped up but at least it doesn’t stink up the garage.
Is this strange to you?

I began to do this because of the many bears in the Alaskan village I lived in. From time to time the CB would sing out, “The bear has entered the village.” and then “The bear is near the store.” These reports scared me. But once you’ve mindlessly walked to the dumpster in the early morning just before day break and you are startled by a violently moving dumpster I think you’d also but your trash in the freezer.

Update 3

Something you might not know about me is that …
I was an original Californian Valley Girl. “Totally radical dude!” Fortunately, we moved from the valley to the beach in 1982. I got out just before the lingo stuck, “like gag me with a spoon.” Well to solidify the fact that my family was not local to San Clemente we probably did the stupidest thing ever. In fact there is a whole day named for it, March 1, 1983, “The Day the Pier Broke.” My father thought it would be great fun to go out on the pier while the waves crashed over and through the boards. With each wave the pier would sway and the water splashed over us from all directions. “We were so stoked.” “It was totally tubular.” In the morning to our surprise we heard a Special Report, “The San Clemente Pier and four others were washed away in the middle of the night.” Dad was definitely in the dog house.

Update 2

Something you might not know about me is that …
I do not like to be boxed in. You might say that I am claustrophobic but I believe that I just don’t want to be in the way. I’m sure there are a lot of psychological labels that could be placed here but I just don’t want to inconvenience anyone. That is why I use my companion fare when I fly or I choose to sit on the end of an isle at church.

Update 1

Something you might not know about me is that …
Something you don’t know about me… I like to fly stunt kites. Maybe someday I’ll try kitesurfing or kiteskiing.

  1. Great goals Shelli – don’t worry about the time. I try to go by the participant’s local time.

  2. I have tried and tried to fly kites. I just can’t seem to get the hang of it. My kids had a stunt kite for a while and I was just really good at driving it into the ground. 🙂

  3. Stunt kites! What fun. Years ago I had a boyfriend that like them, too. Our stunt kite hobby ended when we “mastered” the Nose Dive Into The Ground trick… LOL!!

  4. Great work on your goals.

Kites are so cool! What a neat thing to do.

    • Yep when those kites nose dive to the ground it can be a little discouraging but when you can pull it up in the last second it makes it so much fun.

  5. Great progress on your goals Shelly. Here’s to a healthy week ahead!
